The best thing to wear to a boudoir session is not necessarily the smallest thing you own. It is the thing that fits well, photographs beautifully, and lets you feel like yourself—with the volume turned up.
You do not need to buy a suitcase full of lingerie. You do not need to figure it out alone. And you definitely do not need to panic-order twelve things at midnight.
Start with fit, not the size tag
Ignore the number on the label. If a piece pinches, gaps, rolls, or needs constant adjusting, it will distract you. A well-fitting bodysuit often photographs beautifully because it creates a clean line and gives you room to move. A supportive bra-and-panty set can be gorgeous too, especially when both pieces fit comfortably.
Bring options. We will make final decisions together at the studio.
Boudoir wardrobe ideas that work
- A bodysuit with shape or texture
- A coordinated bra-and-panty set
- A robe, sheer layer, or button-down shirt
- An oversized sweater or meaningful T-shirt
- A simple black or neutral set
- Something with lace, mesh, velvet, or straps if that feels like you
- A favorite piece connected to your partner, story, or milestone
You can also create beautiful images while more covered. Skin is not the price of admission.
What to skip
Leave anything that makes you feel like you are wearing a costume for someone else. Avoid pieces that are painfully tight, visibly damaged, or impossible to move in. Be careful with complicated straps if you already hate wrestling with them in the mirror.
Shoes are optional. Bare feet photograph beautifully. If you bring heels, choose a pair you can safely stand and pose in for short periods.
The Marmalade Client Closet
Marmalade clients have access to a studio wardrobe in sizes XS–5X, with lingerie, bodysuits, robes, and other session-ready pieces. Availability and fit vary, so I help choose pieces that support your body and the look we are creating.
You may bring your own favorites, use the Client Closet, or combine both.
The details people forget
Bring neutral undergarments for arrival, remove tight socks or clothing early enough to let marks fade, and avoid experimenting with a brand-new self-tanner right before your session. Pack any meaningful accessories, but keep the focus on you rather than a pile of props.
Most importantly, bring curiosity. You may be surprised by which look becomes your favorite.
You do not need to solve your wardrobe before you book. See what the Marmalade experience includes.
