Yes—a skilled boudoir photographer should give you clear posing guidance. At Marmalade, that guidance covers everything from your feet and hips to your hands, breathing, eyes, and expression.
You are not supposed to arrive knowing what to do.
“But I am awkward in photographs”
So are most people when they are given no direction. Feeling awkward does not mean you are unphotogenic. It usually means nobody has shown you where to stand, how to shift your weight, or what to do with the collection of limbs you suddenly became very aware of.
I demonstrate movements and talk you through them one piece at a time. Tiny changes matter: relaxing a shoulder, changing the angle of a wrist, lengthening through your spine, softening your mouth, or breathing at the right moment.
Posing is not about hiding your body
Thoughtful posing uses light, line, movement, and expression to photograph you with intention. It is not punishment for having a stomach, arms, scars, loose skin, curves, or a body that changed.
I work with the body in front of my camera—not an imaginary body you were supposed to bring instead.
If you have an injury, mobility limitation, pain, or a movement that does not feel safe, tell me. We adjust. A photograph is never more important than your body.
You can still look like yourself
Direction does not mean every client gets forced into the same five poses. We choose movements and expressions that support your body, comfort, wardrobe, and the feeling you want the photographs to carry.
Some images may feel soft. Others may feel strong, playful, romantic, or bold. You are allowed to laugh. You are allowed to need a reset. You are allowed to say, “That one is not for me.”
Your only job
Show up. Breathe. Let me take over the technical pieces.
You do not need to practice in the mirror. You do not need a secret model face. You do not need to spend the week before your session worrying about your hands.
That is my job. And after more than seventeen years of photographing women, I know how to guide you through it.
See real women before and after their fully guided sessions.
