Professional hair and makeup is not about covering you up or turning you into somebody else. Done well, it helps you feel cared for, polished, and ready for the camera while still looking like the woman who walked into the studio.

It also gives you time to settle in before the photographs begin.

Tell the artist what feels like you

You can ask for soft and natural, full glamour, or something in between. Bring a few reference images if they help communicate the mood, but remember that inspiration is not a demand to copy another person’s face.

Tell the glam team about sensitivities, allergies, skin concerns, contact lenses, hair extensions, or products you need to avoid. If you rarely wear makeup, say so. If you love a dramatic eye and a bold lip, say that too.

You are allowed to have preferences.

How to prepare

Arrive with a clean, moisturized face unless your preparation guide says otherwise. Hair should generally be clean, dry, and ready to style. Avoid making a major haircut, color change, facial treatment, or skincare experiment immediately before the session.

Drink water. Rest if you can. Do not punish yourself with a last-minute beauty boot camp.

Camera-ready is not the same as unrecognizable

Professional makeup can look a little more defined in person because studio light and the camera soften it. That does not mean it should feel like a mask. The goal is balance: definition that photographs well, styling that supports your wardrobe, and a finished look that still feels connected to you.

If something feels wrong, speak up while it can be adjusted.

How it works at Marmalade

Professional hair and makeup is part of the regular full experience and is currently paid separately to the glam team on the session morning. Limited-session offers may work differently, so check the specific booking details.

Once glam is finished, we finalize your outfits and move into a fully guided session. You do not have to hold onto the confidence by yourself. I will keep directing you one step at a time.
